irrKlang 0.8 released

Posted on:May 03 2007

There is a new release out of irrKlang, the free 2D/3D audio engine. This time I only added some few bug fixes (removed the DirectSound pop/click sound which occurred sometimes when playing streamed sounds and a problem with the ALSA driver when running on hardware not supporting power of two buffers, which I thought I had fixed the last release already) and a small new feature (default values for 3D distances).
irrKlang is getting better and better and there are now so many features and not much bugs anymore, and thus, version 1.0 is not far anymore. I mentioned that the option to redistribute irrEdit and to access the source of it will be available in about two weeks for people really needing it, for a small license fee, and now some are asking if I could offer a similar thing for irrKlang. Ok, why not, I'm doing it. But of course, irrKlang will remain free as it is currently.
Thanks to all the people supporting irrKlang :)

I hope the 'small' license fee for irrEdit is only for people who want the source code and that the program itself will remain free ;).

I hope some code guru out there can write a sound scene node plugin using irrKlang for irrEdit. (hint hint niko ;)..

Sure, it will remain free.
The irrKlang scene node is nearly done, I'll include it in the next release of irredit (it shouldn't have to do anything with irrlicht) :)

Keep it up niko. ;-)

Thanks for the setDefault3DSoundMinDistance() features! Any chance of irrKlang supporting 4-, 6- or 8- channel audio by the 1.0 release? I know that's probably a lot of work, so no pressure [8^) Thanks again!

Have you heard this:
Can you implement it?
(90% of joke, but if you can....)

IrrEdit is turning out to be more of a game editor for Irrlicht than just a simple world editor. I cant wait to see how the IrrKlang scene node works out. All the best Niko.(h)

BTW can you please add a plane node on the next release. You already have a cube node and sphere node.. I am sure it will be of so much help. Plus can you also enable cloning for empty scene nodes. ;-) i really use them a lot on my scenes.

plane: that's a good idea.
about 4D-sound: Haha :) More channels: Good idea, I'll take a look at it.

Thanks Niko, That will save me a lots of work. Don't forget to enable cloning for empty scene nodes :-).

Something I made a while back with 3D-max 5.0 I am trying to do the same scene with irrEdit but Global Illumination takes so long to render on my computer. The models are from Warcraft III.
