Admire my mad video editing skillz

Posted on:May 05 2013

I just created a 2 minute youtube video, explaining what CopperCube is and what games and apps you can create with it. The problem is that I'm not very good at video editing, and I honestly think the video sucks. But because I do like experimenting with stuff, I dared to put this video onto the front page of the CopperCube website, to see how it turns out. Not sure if this was a good idea, maybe it will even harm sales. But see for yourself:

The worst mistake I did was probably that I recorded the video in 4:3 format. Only after uploading it to youtube, I remembered that videos nowadays are 16:9. The video also includes a few scenes of apps created by CopperCube users. The music was composed by myself. I've now heard it that many times that I cannot tell if it is OK or not. Also, you'll notice that all music I compose sounds quite similar. :/

Even biased by your pessimistic introduction, I think it's very good. It shows what the tool can do, it's cut in a way that makes it interesting to watch and it even has a fitting soundtrack.

One common problem between technical and marketing experts is, that techies can do stuff and marketeers can sell it, and when either of them goes freelance, he has to do the other ones job (or hire one).
I'd say you're doing a great job at it :)

Actually the music is the best part :)

Good effort, I know from experience it is hard to create good content. I'm no marketing genius myself but I have some suggestions anyway ....
Seems to me that showing some of the programs technical features is not the best way to start. You should begin with a brief introduction of what CopperCube is, then show what you can do with it and only then, maybe, show some technical highlights. And finish with an action line like: 'Download the free trial now'.

It would be great if all parts of the demo have the same quality as the 'architectural visualizations'. Not a 'primitive' bright yellow scene followed by a pitch black whatever that was scene. For me the pace of the video was a bit too high. Hmm, must be my age showing.

I recognized some backgrounds (skies and quake stuff) which were cool when I started using Irrlicht 0.6 in 2004, but now seem outdated. Seriously, you should consider hiring someone to create some nice material. (Try something like elance or your local art school) It is not going to cost you an arm and a leg.
